WHAT IS SOUND HEALING / THERAPY?
Sound Healing Therapy is the use of special sounds, played live, to facilitate the healing process.
Sound, used by a trained and experienced practitioner can stimulate the relaxation response and slow the brain waves down.
This triggers the production of health producing hormones like endorphins and nitric oxide. When this occurs the stress response is lowered and the harmful hormones like cortisol are not produced.
The Sound Healing Practitioner plays instruments to help the release of tension and to bring about a positive outcome such as relaxation, peace, clarity, motivation, and freedom from a difficulty that has often been with a person for a long time.
Sound Healing and Sound Therapy usually mean the same.

IS THERE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SOUND BATH AND
AN INDIVIDUAL SESSION?
In a Sound Bath the Sounds are played for the whole group.
In an individual one-to-one session the sounds are played especially for you. Roise can hear the sounds change in sound where you have tension and where your energy is low. She then uses specific and techniques to balance your energy.
Roise will discuss with you what is causing your current difficulties, and what posititive outcomes you are wanting.
These individual sessions are suitable for the more difficult health and personal issues.

IS A SOUND BATH SUITABLE FOR EVERYONE?
Some conditions are far more effectively treated in individual sessions. This includes medically diagnosed conditions and difficult personal issues.
If you have any of these:
chronic long term conditions
sever acute conditions
difficult personal issues
then individual personalised one-to-one sessions with Roise will be more appropriate for you.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE - SOUND BATH OR GONG BATH?
Roise plays sounds very gently so people can feel comfortable in allowing themselves to go into the sound.
Sound bath instruments are generally smaller and can be softer in sound. Sound baths are often held in smaller and more intimate spaces.
Gong Baths are generally louder than Sound Baths. Gongs are often large instruments and they can fill up a big hall with their sound. The word 'intense' is often used to describe a Gong Bath.
A gong can be played softly, and in a small space too, as Roise does.
If you have not been to a Gong Bath before it may be a good idea to place your mat near the door so you can leave the room if the gongs become too intense.
Of course you may find that you love the gongs and want to be as close as possible to them, as many people do!
WHAT IS THE EVIDENCE FOR THE EFFECTIVENESS OF SOUND HEALING?
Scientific studies have shown that positive sounds can
trigger the relaxation response
reduce the stress response
calm the mind by slowing the brain waves down
reduce the production stress hormones like cortisol which are harmful to health, especially to the heart and circulatory system.
stimulate the production of healing hormones like nitric oxide.
If you want to know more, the book “Healing at the Speed of Sound” by Don Campbell is an easy to read account of the scientific evidence for sound healing.
